trying opencode - open source ai coding tool
I’m very pro open source. Open source software gives you ownership, control. When you rely on a closed-source tool, you are dependent on the owner to keep the tool working and available.
In the AI space, open source tools are gaining momentum. One such example is opencode, a terminal based ai coding agent. Claude Code has been my main AI coding tool of choice. I’m happy with it. But Claude Code is a closed source tool and only officially supports Anthropic’s models Opus and Sonnet.
With exciting new models coming out frequently (ChatGPT 5 rumored to be coming next week..), and Anthropic’s recent announcement of new increased rate limits of its subscriptions - I wanted more flexibility. It was time to try opencode.
